Period Project

Champions of Youth is putting together “First Period Packs” to help girls in our program
feel confident and prepared, helping them stay in school.
Recent data finds that one in five American girls misses all or part of the school day due to their periods. Columbia professor, Dr. Marni Sommer’s research shows that students associate menstruation with shame and feel uninformed about their periods. This lack of access to period products is often referred to as ‘period poverty’. It can lead to missing school and other developmental experiences, limiting a girl’s potential and opportunities far beyond puberty. Champions of Youth would like to provide all girls with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful, confident, and prepared for all challenges.
Items we could use:
– Pads
– Tampons

Dog-Eared Pages has graciously been collecting donations for our Period Project at her bookstore.
“When I opened my bookstore, community involvement was a very important priority for me. For the month of June, I will be collecting donations for the Champions of Youth! They are putting together period packs for the young girls in their mentoring program. Items to donate: tampons, pads, feminine wipes, small body sprays, cosmetic/Ipsy bags, travel size hand sanitizer, sandwich baggies, underwear, etc. Let’s help the young ladies of our community feel more prepared!”
