Why You Should Consider

Being a mentor is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you will ever do. It’s simple, too. Mentors are regular people just like you. Role models come in all shapes and sizes. They are bus drivers, firemen, teachers, lawyers, shop owners, executives, or just caring fathers. Some have college degrees while some don’t even have a high school diploma. You can do this! You just have to want to make a positive impact on the life of a child.

Youth come to the Champions of Youth program for all kinds of reasons. Maybe they come from single-parent homes or have two working parents, maybe they are falling into bad patterns at school, maybe they are the only boy in a house with three sisters or maybe they struggle making friends and feel lonely or frightened. What they all share in common is the need for friendship with a caring adult.

Each child needs a positive role model to impact his life, and that role model can be YOU!

What Does A Champion Do?

Each Champion is matched with a Youth whom they meet with on a regular basis.  Champions provide support and encouragement to youths to overcome obstacles and reach their highest potential.  Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every month doing things the Champion and Youth already enjoy. Some of these activities include:

Playing a board game together

Shooting some hoops

Taking a walk in the park

Sharing a pizza

Or just hanging out and talking

The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of the Champions and the Youth in different kinds of situations. Some Champions meet their Youth on the weekend or in the evening. Others get together with their Youth after school. There’s almost no one so busy that they can’t find a way to fit in a few hours a month.

For only a few hours a month, you can positively impact a youth’s life and help teach them how to make good choices while growing up… all in only a few hours every 30 days!

Ready To Get Started?

The easiest and fastest way to get started is to complete the form. After you submit the form, a Champions of Youth staff member will contact you to start the application process. You’ll need to:

  • Provide two references
  • Participate in an in-person interview
  • Go through a background check

Before we match you with a Youth, we do our homework. After someone expresses an interest in becoming a Champion, they go through a background check and careful interview process. Then we match Champions and Youth based on location, personalities, and preferences.

We provide full support from the start, so matches can grow into lasting, impactful friendships. The entire matching process is made possible through donations—we can’t do what we do best without them!
